Lyndi Fourie Foundation

FARM PROPOSAL
FINANCIALS

Our planet... [South Africa] is like a small boat, driven by a fierce gale through dark and uncharted waters, with more and more people crowded on board, hoping desperately to survive. None of us…. can afford to ignore the condition of our fellow passengers. If they are sick, all of us risk infection. And, if they are angry, all of us can easily get hurt."

-- United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, 2002.

Vision
To further CONCILIATION in South Africa. We believe that following the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report of 1998 we as responsible South Africans can each use our sphere of influence to foster peace, justice and conciliation.

The Foundation is dedicated through those who struggle; Ginn Fourie, through the loss of Lyndi her only daughter at the Heidelberg Tavern Massacre in December 1993, and Letlapa Mphahlele, the Azanian Peoples Liberation Army Commander who gave the order for the massacre. Letlapa struggles with the shame of his People's oppression and poverty.

We feel extremely privileged through discovering conciliation ourselves to extend the opportunity for others to cross the divides of race, gender and differing ideology (Ginn is Christian and Letlapa Atheist - We will naturally convert each other!).

Mission
To find support and raise funds for the following projects:

1. Empowerment of Rural People
Starting with Seleteng in Limpopo Province which is the childhood home of Letlapa and moving outwards to become as large as the South African Community prompt it to become.

(Strategic Planning took place Dec 8 - 12, 2003.. Two facilitators from Connections in Cape Town guided 60 members of the Seleteng community through 4 days of arduous work at 40 degree temperatures to plan the way forward. One day of open invitation to the broader community on Dec 10, helped to inform and get feed-back. 4 Computers were donated to begin the computer literacy training so urgently required by the community)

2. Healing and Reinskillment of Former-Combatants
Research done by Ginn indicates the level of anger and frustration of many Former Freedom Fighters and Former Apartheid State Combatants who now find themselves faced with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and the ghosts of participation in 'the killing fields'. These ghosts may take the form of broken relationships, joblessness and substance abuse. We commit to finding ways to promote healing and reinskillment. Included are those who yet languish in prison. Collaboration with NGO's and Government projects is welcomed.

3. Diversity Training Workshops
Ginn and Letlapa are committed to promoting the skills for 'working together' which applies to organisations who value 'Diversity in the Workplace'. They plan to raise funds for travel and administration of the Foundation by offering these workshops. Thus freeing 100% of donated funds for Projects 1 and 2.

Constitution
The Lyndi Fourie Foundation is a joint venture between Ginn Fourie and Letlapa Mphahlele. Ginn was moved to action by experiencing the disempowerment and material needs of the Seleteng Community after attending Letlapa's Home-Coming Ceremony in December 2002. On the plane journey back to Cape Town she drew up a 'No Fat Cats Foundation' vision and objectives. However upon meeting with Letlapa the next week, he joined in wholeheartedly provided it be called the 'Lyndi Fourie Foundation'. So that when people ask who Lyndi was the story will be told and retold and her name will forever be associated with conciliation. We are honoured to have associates willing and enthusiastic to join as Company Directors

Communication
Since three members of the board reside in Johannesburg and three in Cape Town, with the seventh one, Anthony, living in the Carribean. An annual meeting with a quorum of 5 members may meet alternately in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Other than an annual meeting e-mail is a swift and painless means of communication.
